ChangeMessageClassPF for Microsoft® Exchange Server 2010

Purpose

A property of the item called message class determines the form the item uses. This application can help you to change the message class for incoming messages from the default to custom one. For example, you create a custom Outlook form with IPM.Note.Sales message class and you need that each message e-mailed to your Exchange Sales mail-enabled public folder will be converted to your custom form (IPM.Note.Sales) immediately after receiving to display information in a Sales custom form.

The application also can delete permanently the incoming messages associated with a certain message class. For example, you can delete all nondelivery reports whose message class is Report.IPM.Note.NDR before delivering them to the public folder.

Installation

On your computer running Exchange 2010 Server that plays Mailbox server role:

1. Create a new mail-enabled public folder named CMCPFTEST.
   You should create this PF for test purposes only, so you can delete it after you satisfy yourself with the fact that the application is actually works.

2. Create a mailbox-enabled user account (let's name it "CMCPFAdmin") that is a member of the Domain Admins and Domain Users security groups. That account must have full permissions on the all mailbox stores. Open Exchange Management Shell and execute

       Get-MailboxDatabase | add-adpermission -user CMCPFAdmin -accessRights GenericAll

3. Log on as CMCPFAdmin.

4. Create C:\Program Files\CMCPF2010\ directory. Download ChangeMessageClassPF2010-Demo.zip archive file to C:\Program Files\CMCPF2010\ directory and extract all files.

5. Run C:\Program Files\CMCPF2010\ChangeMessageClassPF2010Setup.exe.
   • Click "Create" in "CMCPF2010 Account" frame.
   • Press "Add" button in "Rules" frame and create the following rule:
     " IPM.Note | convert to | IPM.Note.CustomForm "
     
   • In "Public folders" frame check "CMCPFTEST" public folder and press "Edit" button. In the new window check a rule in the list and click "Assign" button. Click OK button to close the window.
   • Click "Save" button.
   • In "ChangeMessageClassPF2010 Service" frame click "Install" button. Press "Start" button. Make sure that "Running" status string appears in the bottom left corner of the window.

     

   • Click "Exit" button to close the program.
     

Testing

We assume you have a rule that looks like

1. Using Outlook, open CMCPFTEST public folder. Create a custom view that shows the "Message Class" column. In Outlook 2010 open "View" menu and select "View Settings". Then click "Fields... button. Select "All message fields" from the list on bottom left corner of the form. Select "Message Class" field in the Available fields: list and press Add button. Click OK button to close Show Fields window. Click OK button to close View Summary window.

2. Send a message to CMCPFTEST. Make sure the message you just sent is delivered to CMCPFTEST and its message class is set to "IPM.Note.CustomForm".
   The message conversion may take some time (usually 20-40 seconds).

   

We have tested ChangeMessageClassPF with Outlook 2010 and Exchange 2010 Server SP2.

Uninstallation

1. Run C:\Program Files\CMCPF2010\ChangeMessageClassPF2010Setup.exe.
   • Press "Stop" button in "ChangeMessageClassPF2010 Service" frame. Click "Uninstall" button.
   • In "Public folders" frame check "CMCPFTEST" public folder and press "Edit" button. In the new window click "Remove all assigned rules" button. Click "OK" button to close the window.
   • In "Rules" frame select a rule in the list and press "Delete" button.
   • In "CMCPF2010 Account" frame click "Delete" button.
   • Click "Exit" button to close the program.
     

Limitations

The program can work only with mail-enabled public folders.

About this demo version

ChangeMessageClassPF 2010 demo version works only for the public folders whose names include "TEST". Examples:
      cmcPF1TEST
      Test2SM
Other public folders are unavailable. The full product version has no limitations.
